Hello! I'm so glad to have found a surviving little part of my childhood here in this nice little forum. I discovered Chaotic back when it was big, goodness it must have been late 2008 or 2009? I was on the old Chaotic Game site, but I never actually played a single game of Chaotic. I loved to collect all the cards and study the gameplay mechanics though, even if I never could find any of the M'arrillian Invasion and beyond boosters in stores in my country (I'm from the UK, I just remember it was laughably easy to find Silent Sands packs back in the day, even newsagents stocked them but I remember I could only find the later expansions online).

In fact I fell in love with the gameplay mechanics of Chaotic so much, I used it as a basis for a personal TCG project that I started 6 years ago, 3,300 cards and 26 "sets" later I'm still working on it today and adding to it all the time. I suppose they're a bit like a fan made set of Chaotic cards but with my own characters and altered terminology instead, but it wouldn't be hard to turn them into fully Chaotic cards. I just do them for fun of course!

The other day I suddenly had an urge to get back into collecting official TCG cards, and while researching MTG, I stumbled across an eBay listing for Chaotic promo tins, basically 28 tins for £28 shipped, so I bought them on a whim. That was quickly followed by an additional 100 booster packs for £42. And I'm extremely excited to receive my first Chaotic cards since I sold my old collection all those years ago! (oh how I regret that, I had a Heptadd in my old collection too)

Now I'm eyeing up US stores such as Stop2Shop that still have the boosters and starter decks (I may have just emptied a lot of the UK stock out Whistle ), they are an insanely good price (I really want some of those SOTLC starter decks, they are so expensive in my country as they never reached the UK?) but their international shipping plus customs charges make it but a distant dream. Maybe if there's some other people in the UK and Europe who want to combine Stop2Shop orders and split the shipping and customs cost, I'd definitely be up for that! Big Grin

Any chance you'd be willing to show off your game? As a major tcg fan Im very intrested sad that international shipping is so hard Ive always had a pain tradeing cards internationally and I imagine shipping boxes of pavks is even worse. Look forward to chatting with you sometime or maybe having a game or two Wink welcome to tge club.

Of course, I'd love to show it off at some point but I'm going to wait until I've finished revising the art of all the cards I'm illustrating personally (I set up about 280 PSD files the other day for just that Laugh ), plus I haven't finished writing the ability texts of about half of them (I ran out of texts I can alter from the official Chaotic cards long ago). Might take me a few months or a few years, depends how much time I can invest in it. TCG card collecting/making is only a side hobby, my main one is LEGO. But for now I could share some of my invented abilities that may well have been seen in Chaotic in some form had it not been cut short (terms changed slightly to match Chaotic's terminology, you're more than welcome to borrow them for your own custom cards with credit if you want), maybe later I'll show off a completed card complete with terms specific to my TCG:

Absorb X: A Creature with Absorb X gets dealt X less damage by an opponent’s first Attack each combat. Absorb is an Innate Ability and multiple instances are cumulative.

Generate: When a Creature with Generate is defeated during an opponent’s turn, you can return another Creature to play in any open space. Usually you have to return a Creature that doesn’t have the same name as the defeated Creature. Some cards specify which Creatures can be legally returned to play, eg. Generate: Voltron means you can return only a Creature card named ‘Voltron’ to play, or Generate: Danian means you can only return a Danian Creature card to play. Some card abilities can also make Generate work during your own turn. Multiple copies of “Generate” use the least restrictive condition and is otherwise redundant.

Rampage [Build Cost] X: An Innate Ability. A Creature with Rampage deals an additional X damage when it plays an Attack with a Build Cost stated in the ability. Multiple instances of this ability are cumulative.

I also have an idea for a Creature ability that allows the drawing/discarding of Attack cards when said Creature deals damage, but I haven't decided a name or written the rules for that one yet.

My Deviantart (same as my username here, would link but the forum's not having any of it) is the place where I upload some of the artworks I use for the TCG project (one is my avvie), to give you an idea of the "creatures" I mean Smile

As for international trading, it does kinda suck living in the UK, Stop2Shop for example wants $13 to ship a single card or $40 to ship a single booster pack or starter set to me. None of the UK specialist TCG sites like Magic Madhouse or Chaos Cards have any Chaotic in stock sadly Frown  At least the shipping for Stop2Shop caps at $70 there but to make that worthwhile I have to order about $300 of stuff, then I have to pay another 20% customs tax on delivery, hence why I might consider a combo order if I can find enough interested folks from my general area.

Probably hence why I also get great satisfaction making my own TCG cards, I can even buy  printable holographic and mirror paper to make my own shinys and from the test prints I've done, they look awesome Big Grin

As for having a game of Chaotic, definitely maybe. I'll see if I can come up with some decks with the large amount of cards I'm going to receive in the post in a few days first Big Grin

Well, I received my first shipment of 28 Chaotic tins and 50 additional boosters today - and I couldn't quite believe the amount of Ultra Rares that I pulled from them all. I pulled FOUR Illexias and two Maxxors, as well as a Heptadd, Lord van Bloot, Blazvatan, Hammerdoom and a bunch of other non-Creature cards. A bit disappointed I didn't pull a Chaor though despite getting almost all the other Ultra Rare Creatures from the first three sets. 17 Ultras in all - and I only had two in my old collection.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with 4 Illexias though - I only needed 1 Tongue

I could trade with somebody I suppose, I did also set up a TCO account to log what I have. It helps that I'm not fussy where my trading partner is located.

4 Illexias isn't too bad though - I also ended up with 12 Karrabas. I think I'll be stuck with those! Hehe

One question though: All the rare DoP ones I got recently were non-foiled cards with some bronzed text (to be honest they look quite tacky next to the lovely shiny cards of later expansions). I'm sure I remember having full foiled versions of rare DoP cards in my old collection that I got from boosters and starter decks. Is the bronzed text non-foil rares typically how rare DoP cards were made?

I'm not a huge fan of foils in general and rares aren't actually that rare when you get 2 a pack I would preferred only super and ultras (or heck even just ultras) were foil so yeah I agree

Yeah i'm with you on the rares shouldn't have been foils. I think supers being foil was good. when you think of a pack being like $3.99 or like the 3 packs that were $10 but still $10-12 to get a super, so foil seems right to me.

    Also welcome @TheOneVeyronian

The loose DoP booster and starter packs sold in my country (not ones in tins sold in my country strangely) definitely had foil rares. I definitely remember having a foiled Ekuud and Ario. Sadly I think all the DoP sealed boosters now available are first editions with the gold text cards. I still regret passing on a load of Chaotic starter decks at £1 each even though I was in a bit of a TCG "dark age" at the time though. Especially considering you can't get them anywhere near that price now.

Personally I prefer my rares foiled, it's sort of a standard in most TCG's that rare cards and up come foiled or part foiled (well, except in MTG where foiled commons and non-foiled rares are apparently a thing).

In other news, I fould some preview tins that contained cards from the Fire and Stone series, I was very surprised to find they were available so I bought them. Shame my last bulk order of tins didn't contain any preview tins or tins with M'arillian Invasion boosters when there was a chance of getting them in the bulk lot. I might order another bundle of tins to see if I can get non-Blaaxa (urgh what a useless card imo) black and preview/M'arillian Invasion tins but I'm not sure I need more ZotH and SS packs... or Karrabas, Lores and Barath Beyonds Tongue

Yea, I've got plenty of foil Tartarek's and stuff like that, but I def think that the gold lettering was MUCH nicer looking, I have no idea why they decided to go to rare foils!
