What About the Mugicians? Empty What About the Mugicians?

Post by Oraklon Afjak Sun Aug 24, 2014 9:50 am

Many years ago, my friend Sloan speculated on using Song of Revival to resurrect the Mugician that haunts Stone Pillar. I thought that was pretty absurd at the time, but now it's wracking my brain. There was one thing from the show in particular that lead me along this train of thought.

In the episode "ChaotiKings", Kaz was working his way through the puzzles of Castle Pillar. The final puzzle to get the Mugician locked away was to pick the color that didn't fit with the rest. All of those were Tribe colors he recognized except one: purple.
    What About the Mugicians? Thepuzzle_zpsce95c4f7

This leads me to believe that purple is or was the Mugicians' Tribe color. But Sloan's theory still gives me even more questions. What if the Mugicians haunting Stone Pillar and Rao'Pa Sahkk could be resurrected? Were they the ones that built Kaizeph and Dranakis Threshold? What would they look like? What could they do?

And going back to the tributes paid at the Eye of the Maelstrom, what if they're not quite as extinct as everyone thinks?

I've never thought of it as a mugicians tribe, but just has muges that lived there.

Is your only speculation on that because their is a purple orb?

As a Tribe, yeah, it's because of the purple. But they obviously existed as a Tribe or race at one point given their spirit-selves being everywhere. *sounds like a conspiracy theorist* Just thought it would be cool if Tiaane or Kopond could resurrect one to return that race to Perim. Imagine what kinds of cards those would make in-game too.

if Mugicians are a tribe, then how exactly does it fit in with the M'arrillian fluidmorphers? also, creatures that had and used mugicians seems to somehow regain it as if they heal over time so what exactly are the Mugicians and why do a lot of them gather at the Mugician's Arch?

They never "healed" after spending Mugicians. When a Mugician leaves its host, it eventually finds a new one or continues to drift. The fluidmorphers' ability to call Mugicians through water manipulation isn't exactly clear, but I think it works similar to how they can be called through a Mugician's Lyre or Mipedian Balladeer's Flute. Given the M'arrillians' track record, it's likely that the process is more of a forced approach. Najarin managed to figure it out more or less, and I'm pretty sure Lore would find out exactly how that works now that they have Nunk'worn.

it's never been shown what happens to Mugicians after they go into Mugic but it seems like both disappear after it's used so there's not even any proof that Mugicians can drift around after they leave the caster

though it's not sure what they were doing there, possibly attracted there by the Arch like a magnet but that's all part of the past unless we fix the Arch by collecting all the pieces and bring the game back Tongue

Or cast Mugic from any Tribe, not to mention any abilities they might have to amplify Mugic. Plus they might even be able to break Loyal and work in any army they want.

Fun fact - the mugicians did not exclusively live before regular creatures. While living they would affiliate themselves with the various tribes much as they do in their current ethereal form. Not to become members of any specific tribe, but to aid them from time to time.

I also noticed that mugicians had a different color. Blue for Overworlders, Red for Underworlders, etc..

Based on the host, I would assume. Like how Na-inna moves a Mugician between hosts and it then becomes affiliated with the new host's Tribe. Or where they haunt, like Stone Pillar or Maxxor's castle.

Hard to say. I would hate to think that using them in Mugic or abilities destroys them because that's borderline genocide, but they really gave no indication. I'm still leaning towards them drifting away after "use". Maybe that's why so many of them hung out at the Arch before it was blown to bits.

    What if:

    A. The Muges went back to the spirit lands? I'm not sure how the creatures get muges back either. Maybe after resting or something.

    B. There was a powerful Muge who sacrificed himself and now all the creatures can use his energy to cast mugic. Now it's a source of power, something that can be recycled.

    C. Or maybe the muges used to cast mugic are powered by the cothica and that they are a byproduct of it.

They're Mugicians, not muges. And I don't think that they all came from the same entity, because of the flavors of Overworld Aria, Mipedian Balladeer's Flute, Muge's Tuningfork, and several of the Portal to Perim pages, as well as a few things in the show like Sarah's statement near the end of the second episode. I don't remember exactly where, but I either read or heard from somewhere that it was the Mugicians who (possibly from the Cothica) created Mugic before completely annihilating each other. Hence all the floaty ghosts.
Your theory on them travelling to the Spiritlands after "use" sounds very reasonable. They themselves may not be Sipiritlanders, but it does make sense for them to rest there.

Overworld Aria is beginning to mess with the theory as an individual Tribe...

Wow, I can't believe how quick it was for me to find the source.

Chaoticgameplus.com Page wrote:Long ago, magical, musical beings called “Mugicians” lived in peace and harmony in Perim.  At some point, conflict over the Source divided them into warring tribes. The warring Mugicians mutually destroyed each other.  Their spirits, however, lived on...

That's super awesome, I'd never read anything about them before. It's kind of blowing my mind thinking of them.

So could the "Source" be the cothica?

This is every flavour text I've found about Mugicians that don't hate on them like in Refrain of Denial [Overworld], please note that I'm using my collection and it isn't too great.

Vyll - As the "Annihilator of Mugic", Vyll prevents the casting of Mugic by targeting the source - the Mugicians themselves.
Mipedian Balladeer's Flute - Melodies, harmonies, Cacophonies: Mugicians love all music without prejudice.
Muge's Tuningfork - Though Mugicians may appear to love one tribe's music over another, the fact remains that they love all music equally.
Interlude of Interruption - When the Mugicians sing, all of Perim is blessed.
Monophone Mayhem - The Mugician's singing turned into screams. There will be no more music this day.
Notes of Neverwhere - "If you have all that you need, you are always home." -From an ancient Mugician text
Overworld Aria - Mugicians choose host creatures along tribe affiliations.
Refrain of Denial - Cacophony signaled the beginning of the end of peace for the Mugicians.
Roar of the Mob - It was a sound I never heard before. As if the Mugicians were screaming in pain.
Song of Revival [Underworld] - The Mugicians believed that anything that once was cannot be lost forever.
Crystal Cave - The ancient Mugicians mined the hardest substance in all of Perim to protect their mystical melodies.

Forgot all about Vyll. The dude rips Mugicians right out of their host Creatures.

And yeah, the gems in Crystal Cave are what made the early Mugispheres. The new ones seem to be "brewed", assuming that's what Najarin and Afjak were making in Threshold of Destruction.
