I think it has to happen. Nothing else would make sense, but I do suspect Naruto to awaken some kinda hidden power, or perhaps Obito will give Naruto something. I get the feeling Obito might give Naruto something, just not sure what. I can't see Naruto getting the Sharingan or Rinnegan, but who knows.
